========================= Section 2 ===================== Narrative description of the weather for the 24-hour day, ending at midnight ========================================================= Jul 24 - Cloudy and cooler at sunrise Jul 23 - Cloudy and pleasant through mid afternoon, then showers late afternoon, ending mid evening. Jul 22 - A thunderstorm with heavy rain and strong winds shortly after 7AM producing a 42 mph wind gust at Bruce Dalton's weather station in Timberline, quickly becoming mostly sunny and warm by late morning through the remainder of the afternoon. A brief thunderstorm in late evening. Jul 21 - Dense fog at daybreak, burning off by mid morning and becoming mostly sunny warm through the rest of the day. A brief thundershower came through just before midnight. Jul 20 - Mostly sunny and warm then clouding over late afternoon with a thunderstorm early evening. Jul 19 - Mostly sunny and warm. Starting to get dry...no significant rain in past two weeks. Jul 18 - Mostly sunny and very warm through mid afternoon then becoming mostly cloudy through early evening; clearing by dark. Jul 17 - Mostly sunny and warm through mid afternoon, then clouding over with a few rumbles of thunder and a few raindrops; clearing during the evening. Jul 16 - Mostly sunny and warm. Jul 15 - Some afternoon clouds, otherwise mostly sunny and pleasant. Jul 14 - Clearing and cooler overnight, then a sunny, dry, wonderfully pleasant day. Jul 13 - Becoming cloudy with several periods of showers in the afternoon and evening. Jul 12 - Mostly sunny and very warm. Jul 11 - Clear and cool at sunrise, warming into a beautiful, pleasant day. Jul 10 - Cloudy at daybreak, becoming mostly sunny and pleasant. Jul 09 - Mostly cloudy and pleasant with a few showers before daybreak and again at mid evening. Jul 08 - Partly sunny and very warm. Jul 07 - Partly sunny and pleasant through mid day, becoming mostly cloudy in the afternoon with a light thundershower. Clearing in the evening. Jul 06 - Mostly cloudy and pleasant with several passing light thundershowers in the afternoon. Jul 05 - Several showers overnight, then partial clearing at daybreak; showers and thundershowers returning mid afternoon through early evening. Jul 04 - Showers and several thunderstorms through the day with several downpours in the afternoon and evening; unusually cool. Jul 03 - Partly sunny and pleasant through mid afternoon, then clouding over with showers and thundershowers during the evening. Jul 02 - Sunny, breezy, and pleasant. Jul 01 - Cloudy, foggy, and chilly with several periods of light drizzle, gradually improving to partly sunny by mid afternoon. Clearing during the evening. If there hadn't been some sun late in the day, the max temp would probably have never reached 60...a very unusual event for July. Even here.
Jun 30 - Showers through the morning, ending mid day, then a brightening sky until more showers in late afternoon. Jun 29 - Some sun, but mostly cloudy and pleasant through the day; several light showers and one thundershower in mid and late afternoon. June's total precip of 11.33 inches is the first monthly total of more than 10 inches recorded at this station. In 65 years of observations at Canaan Valley, only nine such months have ever been recorded. Canaan Valley's greatest monthly precip is 15.16 inches in November, 1985, the same month of the catastrophic flooding that devastated the Cheat River Valley. Jun 28 - Partly sunny and warm through mid afternoon, then several thunderstorms from late afternoon to mid evening. Jun 27 - Partly sunny and pleasant. Jun 26 - Partly sunny and warm. Jun 25 - Partly sunny and pleasant. Jun 24 - Low clouds and fog at daybreak, then partly sunny, breezy, and pleasant through the afternoon. Clearing after sunset. Jun 23 - Early sunshine becoming partly sunny, breezy and pleasant through late afternoon, then clouding over again with thunder and a few sprinkles in the early evening; clearing after dark. Jun 22 - A third in a series of thunderstorms at 1AM, then gradual clearing with a fair, pleasant morning and early afternoon. Clouds returned with some thunder and a few sprinkles in late afternoon; fair and pleasant through the evening. Jun 21 - Clear, calm, and cool at daybreak, becoming partly sunny and pleasant through the afternoon. Once again, thunderstorms began popping up in early evening and a long duration thunderstorm and deluge hit here between 9PM and 10PM, and a second, lesser one at 11PM. Jun 20 - Clearing overnight, then clouding over again with several light showers in early afternoon; clearing in the evening. Jun 19 - Clear early, quickly becoming mostly cloudy, breezy and continued rather cool; a few rumbles of thunder at mid afternoon, then a brief, hard thunderstorm at mid evening. Jun 18 - Clear at daybreak, then mostly cloudy, windy, and cool all day with a few sprinkles mid morning and again in late afternoon and evening, accompanied by several rumbles of thunder. Felt and looked more like April than mid June. Jun 17 - A few periods of sun but considerable cloudiness, windy, and unusually cool. Jun 16 - Thunderstorm downpours through the morning with several lesser thundershowers in the afternoon. Year-to-date total precip has surged past a remarkable 40 inches in less than six months. Jun 15 - Dense fog at daybreak becoming mostly sunny and very pleasant. Jun 14 - Mostly cloudy and pleasant with several light thundershowers from early afternoon to early evening. Jun 13 - Partly sunny in the morning, then mostly cloudy, warm and humid with several thundershowers through the afternoon and early evening. Jun 12 - Mostly sunny and warm. Jun 11 - Clearing, cooler, and less humid overnight, then a sunny, pleasant day. Jun 10 - Mostly cloudy, warm and humid with a thundershower in late afternoon and another one early evening. Jun 09 - Mostly sunny and very warm. Jun 08 - Mostly sunny and very warm. Jun 07 - Another sunny and very warm day. Jun 06 - Mostly sunny and very warm.
